"I've seen a steady rise in kids with psychosocial problems during my 30 years in pediatric practice. A large portion of my practice involves young patients with special needs, many of whom have been removed from neglectful, abusive environments and placed in foster care. Children who have experienced the trauma of neglect, have been exposed to drugs and alcohol intrauterine or who were born to parents with compromised mental health, are more likely to suffer developmental delays, depression, exhibit poor social skills and even develop psychosis."
