Prevention & Recovery in Early Psychosis (PREP) is a multidisciplinary treatment team approach for youth and young adults 15 to 25 years of age who have been experiencing symptoms of psychosis for more than one week and less than one year. Research shows that this is the critical time to access services. Services offered by the PREP team include Individual, group, and family therapy, case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, psychosocial education, psychiatric services, peer support services, and supportive employment and education services. PREP is an intensive community-based program that can meet consumers wherever they are in the community, such as schools, hospitals, a doctor’s office, a residential facility or any of Community Reach Center’s outpatient locations.
PREP follows the model of Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC), where decision making is shared between the therapist and consumer in order to determine treatment goals and services rendered. Based on the concept that the consumer is the expert of themselves, Community Reach’s philosophy is that although professional helpers can recommend services, ultimately the consumer decides. The goal of PREP is to gradually reduce frequency and duration of PREP services as the consumer experiences symptom reduction and is engaged in active recovery.
The PREP Program’s regular hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, however, consumers have access to 24/7 crisis services support through Community Reach Center and Colorado Crisis Services.
PREP has specific referral and admission criteria, in adherence with the CSC model. The criteria include but are not limited to the following:
- Consumer has a clinical diagnosis along the Schizophrenia Spectrum.
- Symptoms have been present for more than one week, but less than one year.
- Consumer is between 15 to 25 years of age.
- Consumer is willing to participate in the program.
